Strength training can be traced all the way back to the days of ancient Greece, where brilliant Greek wrestler Milo of Croton was renowned for his strength. Young Milo started strength training by carrying a light, newborn calf on his shoulders for one mile. Milo would do this every day. As the bull grew and gained weight, Milo got bigger and stronger as well. He eventually was carrying a full grown bull on his back for the mile, a testament to Milo’s now incredible strength and power.
Today, strength training is used to build athleticism, improve physical appearance, and promote a healthy body. It also provides a competitive outlet for athletes across the world through various strength sports, such as weightlifting, powerlifting, and strongman.
